How should Carer’s Allowance work?

The Department for Work and Pensions has launched a call for evidence into Carer’s Allowance. The key thing it is looking at is replacing the cliff-edge on earnings – that’s where you get the full £86.45 payment on after tax earnings up to £204/wk, but earn a penny more and you get nothing.

The idea is to replace this with a taper, where the amount received is reduced gradually. There are different options for what a taper could look like, so the Department is asking what people would prefer. Money Saving Expert will be replying to the call for evidence, so wanted to check your views on some of these proposals first.
