Acid reflux – quench the fire (six part series)

Part One

Heartburn is well annoying, and always strikes at the worst possible times, right after a good meal, when you’re out celebrating, or waking up in the middle of the night.  That burning sensation in your chest is stomach acid making its way up into your oesophagus. It’s not caused by producing too much stomach acid; it’s usually caused by a fault with the valve at the bottom of your oesophages – the lower oesohageal sphincter, or LOS. Usually, i’ts if the valve is too weak or if there is too much pressure on it, or too much abdominal fat in obesity.
