Patient Perspectives on Post-Surgical Oral Intake: Understanding Desires and Expectations Following Upper Gastrointestinal Tract Surgery

We are currently working with Stephanie Wakefield, Lecturer – Human Nutrition and Dietetics, based at Newcastle University with a research study about food intake after an oesophagectomy or total gastrectomy.

Summary of Study

Newcastle University are recruiting participants to take part in an exciting research study about food intake after surgery. Individuals who have undergone, or are awaiting, an oesophagectomy or total gastrectomy are invited to take part.  We want to gather your opinions and preferences surrounding the reintroduction of food after surgery. Importantly, it is hoped that your perspectives will allow us to make recommendations for future healthcare which will improve quality of life and experiences of these surgeries for individuals like yourselves.

Should you wish to take part, please read the Patient Information Sheet attached. At the end of the Patient Information Sheet there is a link which will direct you to a 20-minute questionnaire. Your responses are invaluable and will help to collect information that has never before been gathered and analysed. Should you wish to take part in the interview or focus group please express your interest at the end of the questionnaire.

£10 Love2Shop vouchers are available for anyone who chooses to take part in an interview or focus group! For further details, please scan the QR code on the poster or open the information sheet document attached. The questionnaire and the link to the PIS are due to expire on 31st March.
